One last post up for 2012, happy new years to everyone who reads and follows my blog!
Its been manic over the xmas period, i havent picked up a brush since my last post, i asked my girlfriend to marry me and she said yes, but we were in and out of hospital and the dentists as she had a tooth infection.
Hobby and workwise, ive started on Cymbeline's Orx team and Referee, i have the armour base coated on the players and the ref is nearly finished, but its time for bed, my babies have been waking up at odd times over the last few nights and i need my sleep :-(
Looking forward to the new year, i have a number of resolutions planned:
1) Fully paint a blindwater force to go with the farrow to the UK masters in may. This may be 50pts or 75pts, and could be 1 or 2 casters needed.
2) Paint every farrow release this year, 3-15 models, so shouldn't be too difficult.
3) Finish my spartan fleets to 1500pts minimum each, and add land to my CoA force. Not a massive task again.
4) Finish my Tohaa Infinity force to 300pts
5) Finish my Nuem Relics force to 300pts
6) Finish my Mantic: Kow Undead, Dreadball, Project Pandora.
7) Finish my Godslayer: Banebreed to 300pts, Halodynes to 160pts.
8.) Finish my Urban War: Triads to 750pts.
9) Expand Fanplasticlittlemen... Work in progress!
10) If these are done, then I can treat myself to the Cult of Yurei range for Bushido later in the year!
That should see me thru for a while to say the least, and i have a few clients looking to get models done in the new year so i hope to be busier than ever.
The Trontek 29ers are finished! Unfortunately, The set was missing the hex bases that were one of the stretch goals from mantics kickstarter program, so i can photo them in base. My set did include the bases sowen i get my teams up they will all be based ready for action.
The Full Team
Again, more awesome toys from Mantic, minimal cleaning up was required, and all the arms fit into the sockets without greenstuff. Looking forward to the Orx now!
As i said in an earlier post, i have been commissioned to paint up the Dreadball demo set for Cymbeline Games. Im starting on the Corporation team first, the Trontek 29ers, as being a mostly metallic scheme, so i can get it done before my xmas dinner is ready hehe.
Stage 1: Basecoats
The full team is 4 strikers (left), 2 guards (center) and 4 jacks (right), they are identical sculpts so i'll just show one of each until the team is completed.
When these are done i have the Referee and the Greenmoon Smackers Orx team to do. They are a bit more involved so will wait till after xmas is done for them.
I have my own copy of dreadball so i will be getting my own teams done in the near future. As mine is not a demo set i have free run on colours, so expect the Galaxy Ace's and the Obliterator Orx to arrive early next year!
Ive had a brief run thru of the rules and it looks really good so far, the teams are quite balanced against each other and the league rules look entertaining. The Bunker will have its league on the go next year, and as the games are quick to play, we can get a league round done in a meeting and a whole league in 6 weeks easy.
After an epic few days ive finished my Nihilator unit for the Skorne army:
That takes me up to 45pts, which is more than enough to get started with. I need to learn how to use what i have before adding more stuff, and i have my lists planned for the 25 and 35pt levels so its all good.
My Girlfriend picked me up a whiteboard to write up all the stuff i still have to paint of my own, and the commissions i have in from Cymbeline Games's Dreadball set. Im starting on the Corporation team over the wkend. I have till 9th January to get both teams and the Ref done for delivery to the club.
Today i found time to take part in a warmachine doubles tourney at the bunker, first outings for the skorne and i bagged myself a Judicator kill by the bronzeback hahaha.
I have also finished my Nuem starter box this evening:
The Paens are conscripted criminals, forced out of their pain suits and given flails to go nuts with. The Dedicatus is an elite Nuem warrior, capable to barrelling into and destroying small units by himself! Im looking forward to getting these on the table in anger soon!
A few mates have started up Relics, by Tor Gaming (www.torgaming.co.uk) and as ive really liked the Neum range since it was first previewed last year on Beasts of War, i decided to get involved and get myself a Neum starter box and a faction dice and pouch set.
This is the army built and based, it consists of a Specialis pueri (The cloaked female), 3 Paenitentiam (The halfling flagellents) and a Dolor Dedicatius (The big guy!), and comes in at 97pts so is a good match for the other starters that my mates will be fielding.
The chains on the paen were, quite fittingly, a pain to fit together, i fixed mine all down for safer transport rather than all flailing about and extra fragile!
This bad boy weighs in at hefty 10pts, and is the premier beatstick of the Empire! Having faced them enough times at the hands of my mate Sherwin, im looking forward to unleashing it on to unsuspecting tabletops.
The latest addition to my growing Skorne force is completed, the Cyclops Brute. He will play a very important role in the army... casting safeguard on Morghoul so he cant be knocked down! That and taking the odd shooting attack with his shield guard ability hehe.
More to come soon, the Cyclops Shaman and Orin Midwinter are both underway...
Finally finished the paingiver beastmasters to finish my first 15pts of skorne. I have a cyclops brute and shaman along with orin midwinter built and ready to go, hopefully i'll get them done in the next two weeks as we have a 25pt doubles tourney at the club and i fancy busting these out rather than my usual pigz.
Paingiver Beast Handlers
Below is a shot of my full 15pts all together, doing photos like these really help inspire projects and keep them going as you can see what you have done and what you have yet to do.
There's been a bit of a delay in getting the rest of my Skorne force table ready, real world problems and the arriva of Fringe season 4 has cut down my painting time of late, but i have found the time and mojo to get my Agoniser done.
Just need to finish my beast handlers and im ready with 15pts boom!
Over tge fourse of november, the bunker is running the warmachine dark secrets league, i missed week two but was down for week three yesterday. We had 2 games of 25pt mangled metal doubles, and i was teaming up my pigz with my mate rodders and his dirty legion of everblight!
Game 1 vs Harvey/khador and Dave/menoth.
Straight of the bat i broke right and headed for the khador berzerker swarm led by pVlad, a caster i'd not faced before but was cobfident of scrapping little berzeker jacks. This left kegion to go after menoth, and a couple of early mistakes by dace saw ekreoss squashed beneath an avatar and on fire! Khador got the charge on me with vlads feat but only a couple of jacks made contact and damage was minimal with my arm21 hogs. My turn three and i feated which left 2 scrapped berzerkers, 1 juggernaut and 1 drago... turn 4 saw a roadhog bbq of a knock downed vlad haha.
Game 2 vs barry/legion and mark/cryx.
This time it was rodders who made the daft mistake and got pthags killed on turn 2 as the enemy ganged up on him with pdennys feat, a seraph and typhons flames! my turn 2 and i crashed into the cryx lines, setting fire to denny and killing a scythean, the collapsing terrain of the scenario helped as i basically got another turn on the cryx and bbq'd denny. I lost by scenario as i was just out of my control zone, byt everyone agreed that barry's caster was dead next turn with a full health road hog and possubly a warhog that could have got to her.
All in all a great laugh, mangled metal is a great equaliser for pigz as the enemy is lacking all the support pueces they are used to and since pigs have none its all good!
The last two pieces of this commission, the marine characters, are now completed. 4TK are very happy with my work so i shall be delivering them to their shop on wednesday night.
Dark Angel Captain
Dark Angel Librarian
I have really enjoyed painting up this commission, it has been a lot of fun and has tested my painting skills throughout. It has taught me a great deal too, and advice from fellow painters has been invaluable!
Its my stepson's birthday today, the Warmaster is 7yrs old!
He wanted to have some friends over for some painting and a game so thats what we did... 3 boxes of 1/72 plastic soldier company tanks, 9 basic paint brushes and a stripped down version of flames of war later and 7 boys had an awesome afternoons gaming hehe
Tanks ready to rock
Showing the boys the ropes
Warmaster Cob preparing to fire!
Cake topped with a load of his favourites from my collection
I think we'll have to do another one next year hahaha
Well... ive finally cracked! For several years a few of my mates have been banging on about me starting Infinity, but ive always resisted... until now :-D
The release of Campaign: Paradiso and the new Tohaa faction has sparked my interest in the system, and with the main rules and human sphere expansions available for free on the Corvus Belli website www.infinitythegame.com, for free, it only sweetens the deal!
I was passing by tabletop nation on saturday so stopped in with the family to have a quick look at the campaign being played. It was good to catch up with an old friend Stu Mackiness of the tempus Fugitives (www.tempusfugitives.co.uk) and he introduced me to Carlos, one of the designers of the game. We got chatting about the Tohaa and their place in Infinity and he signed my copy of Paradiso with some awesome custom artwork:
Needless to say i was well happy, and im the proud owner of a shiny new Tohaa starter set waiting to be painted... as soon as those Dangleberries are done hehe
This commission has really gathered steam now, the Chaos Lord and Helbrute are finished and ready. The Lord was quite fidly to do but the Helbrute kit is brilliant to paint... i recomend it to painters out there to pick up even if they dont collect Chaos forces!
I will be shortly starting the cultists, and hope to have them completed over the wkend or on monday, then its on with the dangleberries!
The first unit for this commission is complete, the 6 Chosen armed with a variety of power weapons. these models are very detailed, lots of work was required to pick out the red armour in between the gold and the bone sections!
More to follow over the coming weeks, ive got a mates wedding tomorrow so none will be started till monday evening, not sure what to get done next tho...
I was feeling confident as the day started, but i was draw to face Tom Pugh and his mighty lizardmen team... i was doing ok till he had an epic turn of destiny and he killed 3 of my guys and knocked out another!!!!! It was an uphill struggle from then on and couldnt keep them out :-(
Game 5: 1-1 Draw vs Necromantics
This was a great fun game, lots of end to end stuff and a lot of knocked out zombies! I had the numbers and was able to grind out the draw and go up the rankings.
Game 6: 1-0 Win vs Orcs
Last game of the tourney was against Luke, one of my best mates, and a good coach. I ground out a turn 6 TD then basically held on wth tight defence for the next 10 so i could sneak the 1-0 ftw!
I only had a few secs to check the results before having to shoot home but i think i came 13th out of 26th, with 2/3/1 so im happy with that for a wkends work hehe
First game against my mate H-Bomb and his Undead, i had the run of the dice in this game battered a few players off the pitch and my boys romped ahead in the first half, then consolidated in the second. All in all a comfortable win that put me on table 1!
Game 2: 1-1 draw vs Chaos Pact
Top table meant top opposition in the form of Besters! He won the Bunker Bowl 2yrs a go so i has well happy with the draw, a very tough game that i could have won with a little more luck :-D
Game 3: 1-1 draw vs Underworld
Another game against a fellow bunkerite in the form of my good mate Paul. Paul is a great player no matter what team he uses so i knew i was in for another toughy! A third kickass game in a row, i needed an equaliser on the 16th turn to keep me in a good position at the close of play!
Although i had said i was going to use my Chaos team for the whole year, i have broken that vow and decided to use my old Dwarf team, The Kadr Idrys Bulldogs, and try and win some games for a change hehe.
They are quite a famous team, having been featured on Mantics website a few times as they are converted from their dwarf range from kings of war.
My Godslayer stuff arrived yesterday, the banebrood and halodyne starter boxes with the rules/backgroud books. All in all its a great package, the banes are built, srayed and washed with earthshade to pick out the detail.
I hope to get a game next week with the full rules :-D
It is a sad day my friends... its time to sell my Black Legion army.
I cannot reconsile using them with another chaos codex that is so far removed from my ideals of how they should be. Over the next week the entire 8000pts will be going on on ebay, i'll post a link to the sales on here.
I like the new codex enough to build up a renegade chapter army tho, painted slowly to the highest standard, but this will have to wait till my current commissions are completed. I'll have to study up on schemes and find a good one!
Im not sure on the force to use as yet, but the dark vengeance set will form the core, and im not fussed on making it competative as i only paint what i like to paint rather than what the internet says is good.
Morghoul is finished and that completes the plastic battlegroup. Im seriously tempted to keep these as a starting point for a skorne force, let me see, that just needs a bronzeback, a shaman, nihilators, agonizers, orin midwinter...
Work continues on the Skorne Warpack, i have completed the first Cyclops Savage this evening. If i take up Skorne as an army im not sure how much play these guys will get but they are really nice to paint up none the less.
Its one of my mates stag parties tomorrow so im not sure how much i'll get done over the weekend hehe
Im finishing of odd bits and bobs before i recieve the Dark Vengeance set from 4tk, and one of the things i have to get done is the plastic Skorne Warpack i bought a while ago. First up is the Titan Gladiator
Tonight i had two games with my pigs against Menoth at the bunker, first was Lord Carver vs the Harbringer, and second was Dr Arkadius vs eKreoss.
I'd not fought the Harbringer before but knew what she could do, my opponent feated on turn 2 (too early as i reckon i was out of charge range anyway), i backed off slightly but moved Rorsh n Brine upto the edge of her control zone. On my turn 3 i spanked his jacks with hogs and ended the turn with Brine one shotting the bint with his face hahaha.
Game 2 was a long slug fest, only my opponents bad rolls kept me in as he slowly wore down my forces until only Dr A and a couple of damaged beasties were left surrounded. We ran out of time but i was gonna die next turn so happily conceeded the win.
Good times tho, but its uncharted seas next week...
Ive been trying to step up my hobby into a business for some time with the help of my mates and its starting to bare fruition!
Having just completed a small commission for Cymbeline Games, and have further work in a month or so to paint up Tom's Dreadball set, i now have a commission from Fourtheknowledgegaming (http://www.4tk.co.uk), to paint up a Dark Vengeance set for them to demo with for when they move to new premises in November.
This is going to be a big project for me, and will leave little time for my own painting so its going to be a lot of Chaos and Dark Angel related updates over the coming weeks.
Many painting services offer very high quality works, one of the best around is flare miniature painting (http://www.flareminiaturepainting.co.uk/), Darren is quite simply amazing, and has taught me a fair amount, and the change in my standards is noticable over the last year.
I cannot paint to this professional standard, but i can complete good quality gaming standard armies in good time, this is something that helps me to stand apart from other services and offer something different.
I used the new wildrider red and a steady hand to do the hardlining on the armour plates, and auric gold for the legs/arms section. The eyes were done in celestia grey, with pallid flesh points, as was the powersword on the squad leader.
I have the bases to complete for sure, and im debating another targeted highlight on parts of the armour, but dont know what to use to avoid it looking silly, any suggestions guys?
My inital 400pts list is fully painted now, i'll be getting some games in using this setup for a while to see if i need to change anything around, it won its first game and im quite happy with it so far.
