Kings of War: Abyssal Dwarves Part 3

Just finished up the last of my Abyssal Dwarves for month 2 of our league at the club:

I wanted to bulk out my Golems and my Halfbreeds and the easiest way to do that was buying a second army box from Cymbeline Games! These are a really cost effective way of getting your army off the ground and a horde of Golems will look badass on the table hehe

Spotlight: Deadzone Plastics Review

Tom at Cymbeline Games recently passed me some of the new Deadzone plastics to have a look at and paint up a few for him:

First up is one of the Plague Zombies from the Apokalypse set:

This is a quality kit, lots of variation is possible within even a large unit so you can build every member uniquely. The kit comes with separate heads (Some with a helmet), torsos, arms and legs so you can build up dead Corp troopers and civilians to your hearts content.

Next up is a Forgefather in Forge Guard Armour:

These I have been waiting to see since they were first previewed in the Deadzone kickstarter and im not disappointed! The kit comes with separate shoulder plate, torso, arms, legs and gun. Most of the parts are completely interchangeable but a few are lettered up as they will only fit certain torsos etc. There is a variety of weapons provided such as big cannon attachments but I went for a simple machine gun for my demo model.

Lastly is an Enforcer in Peacekeeper Armour:

Peacekeeper Armour is bigger than the standard Enforcers and was first seen on the original metal Captain that I painted up a couple of years ago for Cymbeline Games also. Like the pervious kits there are plenty of build options for these with separate heads, torsos arms and legs, and again a few are lettered up. I left the mold line on the front leg to show how small they are and it only takes a few seconds to clean these newer plastics up.

These kits really do set a new benchmark for Mantic, the Kings of War zombies and skeleton's were for ages my favourites they make but these are a hole new level of awesome! When Warpath gets its revamp im sure it will be something quite special given how good the current Deadzone goodies are.

Mantic Freebies: The Troll

Mantic KoW Kickstarter Freebies Commission: Vampire Countess

Flesh Titan!

Quick update on Kings of War, i found my 3-up zombie i picked a while ago, ive been planning to use him as a giant for my undead. Now, giants arent in the undead arm list, so i was planning to use it as a skeleton regiment so it has enough attacks and resilince to rep its stats appropriately!

Darren at Flare Miniature Painting has done an excellent job on his 3-up Orc for his giant (http://www.facebook.com/flareminiaturepainting?fref=ts#!/photo.php?fbid=426122984123015&set=a.426122934123020.78387351.278380532230595&type=1&theater), and i'll be attending salute with him and Tom of Cymbeline Games, running big demo games of Kings of War so i get to face the mighty Blind Mungo with my own Flesh Titan!!

Dead eyes...

Several years ago i painted up a rather large Kings of War Undead army, 3500pts at the time, in only 5 days... it was far from my best work, but all ranked up it looks quite evoactive on the table!

It has been featured on Mantics Blog before, and i use it to demo KoW for them at Salute and other shows, and will be taking it this year again, to do battle with Cymbeline Tom's Elves, and Flare Miniature's Darren's Orcs in a series of 2000pt games over the day.

As my army is big, there are few units i havent got in it, and these Skeleton Archers are one of them! I will be adding a unit of elite Soulreaver Cavalry and my 3up Zombie as a Zombie Giant (Using rules for a skeleton regiment) before the big day in April.

Also arrived today were further reinforcements to my growing Nuem force for Relics, 2 Tormenta and 4 sagittarius, decent ranged units to support my advance across the field. I hope to have these built and painted soon. Tor Gaming will be doing another Kickstarter campaign soon, this time to flesh out the remaing profiles of units from the rulebook... expect substantal backing from Fanplasticlittlemen as i want to get access to the additional choices to complete my army mwhahaha!

This concludes my commissions for the moment, im not going to take on more work for a bit so i can clear some of my own metal n plastic mountain. It sits at 138 toys unpainted!

Greenmoon Smackers pt 1

The basecoats are done on the smackers team, i will be starting the highlights and neatening up tomorrow, im just too tired tonight to do anymore.... cursed babies and their 3am wake ups!

Great models, and should contrast well with the 29ers when they get to battle on the 9th hehe

Morning!

Merry 2013!

First day of the new year, babies up at 3.30am, first models painted hehe

Dreadball Referee & Balls

On with the Orx team in the next update, basecoats are nearly done so should be today or tomorrow.

Happy New Years!

One last post up for 2012, happy new years to everyone who reads and follows my blog!

Its been manic over the xmas period, i havent picked up a brush since my last post, i asked my girlfriend to marry me and she said yes, but we were in and out of hospital and the dentists as she had a tooth infection.

Hobby and workwise, ive started on Cymbeline's Orx team and Referee, i have the armour base coated on the players and the ref is nearly finished, but its time for bed, my babies have been waking up at odd times over the last few nights and i need my sleep :-(

Looking forward to the new year, i have a number of resolutions planned:

1) Fully paint a blindwater force to go with the farrow to the UK masters in may. This may be 50pts or 75pts, and could be 1 or 2 casters needed.

2) Paint every farrow release this year, 3-15 models, so shouldn't be too difficult.

3) Finish my spartan fleets to 1500pts minimum each, and add land to my CoA force. Not a massive task again.

4) Finish my Tohaa Infinity force to 300pts

5) Finish my Nuem Relics force to 300pts

6) Finish my Mantic: Kow Undead, Dreadball, Project Pandora.

7) Finish my Godslayer: Banebreed to 300pts, Halodynes to 160pts.

8.) Finish my Urban War: Triads to 750pts.

9) Expand Fanplasticlittlemen... Work in progress!

10) If these are done, then I can treat myself to the Cult of Yurei range for Bushido later in the year!

That should see me thru for a while to say the least, and i have a few clients looking to get models done in the new year so i hope to be busier than ever.

Enjoy!

Cymbeline Games Dreadball Pt 2

The Trontek 29ers are finished! Unfortunately, The set was missing the hex bases that were one of the stretch goals from mantics kickstarter program, so i can photo them in base. My set did include the bases sowen i get my teams up they will all be based ready for action.

Close Ups

The Full Team

Again, more awesome toys from Mantic, minimal cleaning up was required, and all the arms fit into the sockets without greenstuff. Looking forward to the Orx now!

Cymbeline Games Dreadball: Trontek pt. 1

As i said in an earlier post, i have been commissioned to paint up the Dreadball demo set for Cymbeline Games. Im starting on the Corporation team first, the Trontek 29ers, as being a mostly metallic scheme, so i can get it done before my xmas dinner is ready hehe.

Stage 1: Basecoats

The full team is 4 strikers (left), 2 guards (center) and 4 jacks (right), they are identical sculpts so i'll just show one of each until the team is completed.

When these are done i have the Referee and the Greenmoon Smackers Orx team to do. They are a bit more involved so will wait till after xmas is done for them.

I have my own copy of dreadball so i will be getting my own teams done in the near future. As mine is not a demo set i have free run on colours, so expect the Galaxy Ace's and the Obliterator Orx to arrive early next year!

Ive had a brief run thru of the rules and it looks really good so far, the teams are quite balanced against each other and the league rules look entertaining. The Bunker will have its league on the go next year, and as the games are quick to play, we can get a league round done in a meeting and a whole league in 6 weeks easy.

Prepare for Nihilation!

After an epic few days ive finished my Nihilator unit for the Skorne army:

That takes me up to 45pts, which is more than enough to get started with. I need to learn how to use what i have before adding more stuff, and i have my lists planned for the 25 and 35pt levels so its all good.

My Girlfriend picked me up a whiteboard to write up all the stuff i still have to paint of my own, and the commissions i have in from Cymbeline Games's Dreadball set. Im starting on the Corporation team over the wkend. I have till 9th January to get both teams and the Ref done for delivery to the club.

Bunkerbowl Day 2

Game 4: 3-1 loss vs Lizardmen

I was feeling confident as the day started, but i was draw to face Tom Pugh and his mighty lizardmen team... i was doing ok till he had an epic turn of destiny and he killed 3 of my guys and knocked out another!!!!! It was an uphill struggle from then on and couldnt keep them out :-(

Game 5: 1-1 Draw vs Necromantics

This was a great fun game, lots of end to end stuff and a lot of knocked out zombies! I had the numbers and was able to grind out the draw and go up the rankings.

Game 6: 1-0 Win vs Orcs

Last game of the tourney was against Luke, one of my best mates, and a good coach. I ground out a turn 6 TD then basically held on wth tight defence for the next 10 so i could sneak the 1-0 ftw!

I only had a few secs to check the results before having to shoot home but i think i came 13th out  of 26th, with 2/3/1 so im happy with that for a wkends work hehe

No rest for the wicked!

Ive been trying to step up my hobby into a business for some time with the help of my mates and its starting to bare fruition!

Having just completed a small commission for Cymbeline Games, and have further work in a month or so to paint up Tom's Dreadball set, i now have a commission from Fourtheknowledgegaming (http://www.4tk.co.uk), to paint up a Dark Vengeance set for them to demo with for when they move to new premises in November.

This is going to be a big project for me, and will leave little time for my own painting so its going to be a lot of Chaos and Dark Angel related updates over the coming weeks.

Many painting services offer very high quality works, one of the best around is flare miniature painting (http://www.flareminiaturepainting.co.uk/), Darren is quite simply amazing, and has taught me a fair amount, and the change in my standards is noticable over the last year.

I cannot paint to this professional standard, but i can complete good quality gaming standard armies in good time, this is something that helps me to stand apart from other services and offer something different.

Enforcer Project Completed

I have completed the Enforcers for Cymbeline Games, in quite proud how they have turned out :-D

Stage 4 - Highlights

I used the new wildrider red and a steady hand to do the hardlining on the armour plates, and auric gold for the legs/arms section. The eyes were done in celestia grey, with pallid flesh points, as was the powersword on the squad leader.

I have the bases to complete for sure, and im debating another targeted highlight on parts of the armour, but dont know what to use to avoid it looking silly, any suggestions guys?

Stage 3: Basecoats done!

Ive completed all the basecoats and given the squad a wash of earthshade. I will do the tidying up in the next stage with the first highlights.

Saturday, 15 September 2012

Stage 2: Redwork and Silver

Finished it inital mecharite red and leadbelcher silver base coats... would do more but the misses is watching "Touch" and its quality haha

Stage 1: Earthshade Wash

I have assembled, undercoated and given the squad two coats of earthshade wash so far. These are cracking models, some of Mantic's best for sure!
