On Bloody Ground: Battlefield Bystanders

One last thing to finish off for my Normans; the Battlefield Bystanders:

These are an optional for in OBG, a mini diorama of camp followers or similar that you can deploy after setting up your characters... they cant move or be placed within six inches of terrain, and are worth 50VPs to you if they are still on the board at the end of the game - 100VPs to your opponent if they have captured them!

Sadly the models didn't arrive in time for use at our club event but are now at least done.

On Bloody Ground: Mounted Milities and done!

Finished up the last unit for my Normans in On Bloody Ground:

A second regiment of Norman heavy cavalry to round out my force ready for our demo day on Saturday; Quite a few people are coming along and we should have 9/10 armies available to game with so it should be a cracking event.

Back to the Conquest stuff now haha

On Bloody Ground: Mounted Milities!

Finally on to the Norman Knights, the Mounted Milities!

These are from Victrix same as the rest of the plastics so far, the next unit of them i have is from Conquest Games, they are a bit older but I've been a fan of the range for many years having faced them in saga a number of times haha.

Another week with reduced painting time sadly! Finally got these completed today after hitting bits over the last seven days:

Crossbow Serjeants

Duke

Bishop Odo

William the Conqueror

That's about half the army completed now; still have another 20 Stippendarii, 24 Milities and 10 Archers to go!

On Bloody Ground: Norman Foot Knights

First unit for my Norman army for the excellent On Bloody Ground game by WIP Games, Norman Foot Knights (Dismounted Milities):

Units in OBG can only be a max of 15% of your total force, so in a standard 2000pts game the most expensive unit you can run is 300pts... which is exactly what 20 of these with large shields costs haha

Spotlight: WIP Games and Miniatures

Something a little different today as last night i got to play On Bloody Ground - The Norman Conquest, with my friend Dave Toone, Co-founder of WIP Games and Miniatures.

Dave, along with his son Dan have been working on a modern historical wargames ruleset for the last few years, and now have their first title "The Norman Conquest for preorder and delivery is expected sometime in the next week or so.

They have been posting regular updates on their facebook page with battle reports and rules breakdowns etc, and also their vast swathe of beautifully painted armies!

So here are a few pics of the game, id not seen Dave for a few months so a lot of the evening was spent chatting away haha, but we got through three turns before having to pack up:

For our game we had a matchup of Vikings (Commanded by Dave) arrayed against Normans (Commanded by me!) in a standard 2000pts game. Dave went through deployment and army setup before we cracked on with turn 1!

What sets this apart from other similar sized games such as Kings of War or Hail Caesar is the use of command points to interrupt the standard flow of the game to allow you to steal the initiative from your opponent and force decisive combats etc.. these are a limited resource and will go quickly, more so if your general gets caught haha.

My game was great fun and I'm looking forward to getting my own Norman or Spanish Christian army built and painted... The lads next book is covering the Reconquista era and all the colorful forces that entails! Overall On Bloody ground is heartly recommended for history buffs and casual gamers alike, you wont be disappointed  in it.
