Black Powder: Portuguese Army finished!

First painted models of the year hehe... 

I couldn't quite manage these at the end of December but they are done now:

Black Powder has really grabbed me this last year, and will probably be the first game i play when we are able to escape out again haha.

  

Black Powder: Portuguese Cacadores

 My second Cacadores Battalion for the army, the illustrious 6th!

I painted these in one day haha, the Cacadore uniform is so much easier and quicker to do than the regular line troops! Only a Brigade Commander and my General to go now whoop!

Black Powder: American Civil War Epic Battles Preview

 Happy Christmas peeps, hope you are all as stuffed as me haha! I got some free time on boxing day and today to get this sprue of Warlord Games new epic battles American Civil War models painted up to see what its all about:

The sprue came free with this months Wargames Illustrated, a preview ahead of the full release in late January I believe.

I painted mine up as Confederates but its the same sprue for both them and Unionists so if i see another copy about in shops I may get one to paint up as the Yankees! The sprue is crammed full of models, 106 to be precise... the box game will have 24 of them!!! Reminds me a great deal of the old Epic Space Marine game with its mountain of identical marine/rhino/land raider sprues.

The models are nice to paint, sufficiently detailed for the job and being plastic very lightweight for ease of transport for a massive army.  

Black Powder: 18th Foot Portuguese Line Battalion

 Two weeks to paint the 24 minis in this unit... fml :-(

Closing in on the end of this project, just one more infantry battalion and a couple of commander models go go to finish my Portuguese army to 500pts!

Its been a hard but enjoyable process, the army looks great on the shelf above my painting desk, i cant wait to actually get playing with them again...

Black Powder: More Portuguese Cavalry

 A second squadron of Portuguese Cavalry finished off today:

Exactly the same as my first squadron, i converted a box of French Cheval with Portuguese line infantry heads... not 100% historically accurate but they will do fine for me.

Now to start my fifth and final Line Battalion!

 These have taken a while haha, but finally done!

That sees me at around 400pts for the game now, we plan to play around 500pts so i still have a little way to go hehe.

Black Powder: Portuguese Cavalry and Brigade Commander

 Hello! Back from a quick break and some hardcore working shifts with these additions for my Napoleonic Portuguese:

The first cavalry regiment and the cavalry Brigade Commander are done. The Portuguese were not known for their and port cav is amongst the worst in the cav... poor, but enough to tackle enemy cavalry units from stopping my more elite infantry battalions from moving forwards!

Black Powder: Moar Portuguese!

Another battalion for my growing Portuguese army for Napoleonic Black Powder; The 12th Foot!

I like how these have turned out, im picking the regiments that Warlord provide the paper flags for so i will grab another two foot units in time.

Black Powder: Second Portuguese Line Battalion

Finished these boys today, and thus complete my first brigade for the game:

I chose to use the yellow colours and cuffs of the 21st Regiment for this unit, and again its one of the flags provided by warlord in the box hehe.

This gives me enough to start but im looking forward to adding more and playing bigger games as soon as we are allowed out of lockdown!

Black Powder: Brigade Commander

Just a quick post today, my first Brigade Commander is done and dusted:

Im about halfway through my second line battalion, work is killing my brush time again so i hope to have them up by the end of the week... possibly!

Black Powder: Portuguese Line Battalion

I've been working on these as time has allowed for a week or so and finally completed them this morning:

As with the Cacadores and Artillery, i've gone for historically inspired rather than fully accurate, i have missed off the piping as to a non-buff its a route of painting madness im not prepared to go down.

They do look cool all ranked up and i cant wait to get a larger force painted up and on the table... i definitely see the appeal of Napoleonic era gaming now! 

Black Powder: Portuguese Artillery Battery

I got these badass cannons finished yesterday night but the wife was working from home today and so robbed access to the computer all day!

Artillery in the game isn't massively effective, its more for some speculative long range pot shots... it does become quite lethal at very short range tho hehe.

I will have a couple of batteries in my force to keep my opponents honest haha

Black Powder: Napoleonic Portuguese Army!

There comes a time in every gamer's life that they get old enough, fat enough and grumpy enough that they here the call of Napoleonic wargaming haha... and i have reached that time!

About a month ago i posted on our clubs facebook group about wanting to start Black Powder, and got a phenomenal response from the boys, we now have about a dozen of us at various stages of beginning our forces.

I have decided to collect a Portuguese army hehe, the blue uniforms combined with the fact they have some decent light infantry sharpshooters and also were a smallish force so not requiring tonnes of different units sealed the deal.

This is my first unit, Elite Sharpshooters called Cacadores (Hunters), pretty similar to the British 95th Rifles of Sharp's Company fame hehe.
