Godtear: Finvarr, Lord of Mirages

Last of the Champions to be painted and i think possibly the last of the Champions to be unlocked on kickstarter hehe:

Finvarr - Guardian Champion

Shadow Seekers - Followers of Finvarr

I knew from the start i wanted to paint these guys up as stealthy ninja batman types haha, so that's exactly what i did! Godtear is now complete until Leena and Jeen are released after Judgement Day!

Godtear: Titus The Disgraced

Its more of a disgrace that these have been sat half painted in the cabinet for over two months!

Titus - Maelstrom Champion

Glory Seekers - Followers of Titus

Just leaves me Finvarr and his boys to complete the range till the new ones are released whoop!

Godtear: Morrigan and Mournblade

I went for something a little different for my Undead models in Godtear, i wanted a simple yet unifying scheme for them so settled on an evil spirit effort of grey with a fleshshade wash and then a terminartus stone drybrush:

Morrigan - Slayer Champion

Cold Bones - Followers of Morrigan

Mournblade - Defender Champion

Knightshades - Followers of Mournblade

Luckily for me the best way to identify different models in Godtear is by painting the base rims to match the class type, so the face that they are all painted the same wont be an issue on the board.

Godtear: Blackjaw!

These have been sat on the painting desk for a month half finished so i finally got round to finishing them:

Blackjaw - Maelstrom Champion

Unburnt Reavers - Followers of Blackjaw

A second maelstrom champ for me, Blackjaw, murderer of enemy followers haha... seriously his ultimate will swing a game turn 8-10pts in your favour so use it wisely. The reavers are a fast moving horde unit but they have an interesting special rule that lets them -1 dice from enemy follower skill rolls unless they have 3 models in the hex doing the roll... spread the reavers out to really hamper enemy followers, which will force them to bunch up and become easy prey for the boss orc!

Happy New Years from Sneaky Peet!

Getting this in proper early as we are busy today and then have friends over this evening, Happy New Years peeps!

Last year i planned to simply reduce my lead mountain! I started the year on 383 and end the year on 359 haha, despite painting up and selling over 600... its a small decrease i suppose!

Edit - I actually went through more boxes and found this total was 735 eek!!!! Time to sell!!!

As with 2018, 2019 was massively busy for me with work, i painted 576 models in the last twelve months, a decent haul by any stretch but far lower than even last years total of 764. I can hope that this year is better but i doubt it, the nature of the beast of my industry is that we are all working longer days with odder shifts that massively impact my spare time to paint.

Its also time to consolidate down the number of armies i have for game systems... i have five for AoS and as much as i enjoy it i just dont play it enough to justify that. LotR again i have five armies, that total needs to drop down to two; a Good and an Evil force is all i need. A few other games that i have odd bits for but dont play also need to go!

I plan on sticking to a few key games and playing them each at least once a month:

Godtear
LotR
AoS
Bolt Action

Then having some flavour games to bust out as needed:

A Song of Ice and Fire
Battletech
Uncharted Seas
Relicblade
Judgement
Kings of War
Confrontation
Moonstone
Wasteman

Now, here's my latest painted Godtear:

Sneaky Peet - Slayer Champion

Sneaky Stabbers - Followers of Peet

Five warbands to go now hehe

Godtear: Shayle and Rattlebone

Finishing off the Shapers from this first wave of Godtear:

Shayle - Shaper Champion

Landslide - Follower of Shayle

Rattlebone - Shaper Champion

Hexlings - Followers of Rattlebone

Shayle is all about movement control from enemies and moving Landslide about to deliver some brutal attacks. Rattlebone manipulates the boons and blights across the board, changing them to your favour.

Godtear: Raith Marid

Been a bit of a slow week haha, got this Dragon Man finished today:

Raith Marid - Shaper Champion

Splashlings - Followers of Raith Marid

Not high on my list of must plays but im sure that will change when i get him on the table haha

Godtear: Rhodri, Thane of the Forsaken Hold

Everyone's favourite giant dwarf is ready to take to the field hehe:

Rhodri - Guardian Champion

Household Guards - Followers of Rhodri

These are some of the tankiest models in the game, with both Champion and Followers able to reach Armour 5! These chaps wont die quickly! The downside to this much resilience is a distinct lack of speed, with only the Wretchlings being slower than them so placement and support is key to getting the most out of those little legs.

Godtear: Lorsann, The Autumnal Wind

Busy week meant no painting for me but i have snatched a couple of hours today to complete these:

Lorsann - Slayer Champion

Mistwood Rangers - Followers of Lorsann

The true ranged Slayer in the game, she packs a multitude of different shots to give her an option into a wide variety of models.

The Rangers also aid by applying debuffs and can help finish off a wounded champion with their decent bow fire.

Godtear: Nia and Half Tusk

Two more Champions & Followers today, Nia and Half Tusk are ready for some table time:

Nia - Shaper Champion

Quartzlings - Followers of Nia

Half Tusk - Guardian Champion

Froglodytes - Followers of Half Tusk

These give me one of each class painted up now, Nia is a Gnome Geomancer who can manipulate objective hexes and hand out a few boons and blights where needed.

Half Tusk is a mighty Troll who with his frogs can guard and move banners about to keep them ptotected. He is also pretty handy in a fight, with two attack actions for the price of one and currently the only in game source of healing hehe.

Also, 1000 posts! Eight years this blog has run for now!

Godtear: Rangosh and Grimgut

My pledge for Godtear finally arrived and the club is all hyped for getting some games in so these have gone straight to the top of the queue hehe.

First up are Rangosh and Grimgut:

Rangosh - Slayer Champion

Red Bandits - Followers of Rangosh

Grimgut - Maelstrom Champion

Wretchlings - Followers of Grimgut

The models in this game are divided into four classes: Slayers(Red), Maelstrom (Yellow), Shapers (Green) and Guardians (Blue). Each gains certain bonuses to scoring such as killing champs or followers or planting banners etc, but the best thing about it is how different each Champion n Followers set are from each other within the class itself.

My planned starting warband of three Champions n Followers is Rangosh, Grimgut and Nia who is currently on the paint table... The plan is to support Rangosh in killing enemy Champions by buffing his high damage but low accuracy attacks!

I have painted the base rings to match the class for ease of identification of the class types.

Godtear: Lorsaynne and Elven Rangers

Ive been working on these along with a few other projects in dribs and drabs this past week but they are finally done:

Lorsaynne, The Autumnal Wind

Elven Rangers

These four models have received the most reworking in the playtests of the game so far, to start with they were far too powerful and even after a redo they are still very strong... can see a further nerf coming in the next update on thursday!

Godtear: Shayle and The Golem

Next up for me is the mysterious Shayle and his mighty Golem follower:

Shayle is a Shaper type Champion, Godtear's equivalent of a mage, he buffs friendly models really well but has minimal damage output of his own... this is fine as he has the giant rock monster Golem with him able to do all the fighting he needs haha

Godtear: Rhodri Ironheart & The Household Guard

Yes Godtear! My models arrived during the week and having spent much of my free time constructing them and all the dice & tokens it was finally time to start painting!

I picked Rhodri and his followers as my first unit to paint, i had a simple scheme in mind for them and was itching to get my teeth into this project:

Rhodri Ironheart, Thane of the Forsaken Hold

The Household Guard

The models were supplied with round bases; 40/50mm for the Champions & Golem, and 25mm for the followers, but given that the game is played on a hex mat it seemed appropriate to base them on hexes; 50mm for Champs & Golem, and 25mm for followers.

The whole kit has been built, undercoated and shading washed so its ready to go!

Godtear: Sculpt previews of the Dwarves!

Earlier today Tom Lishman posted this preview of Rhodri Ironheart and the Household Guard:

These are amazing Dwarf sculpts thats for sure; linked together with coherent uniform and heraldry but also each one is packed full of independant character!

As you can see, Rhodri ( Or as his full title is: Rhodri Ironheart, Thane of the Forsaken Hold), is one big Dwarf haha, all of the Champions are larger than life characters who have become enhanced through the Godtears they have collected over time.

More as soon as i can get it!

Introducing Godtear - Fantasy skirmish combat by Steamforged Games

So that little spoiler shown at Steamcon 2016 has finally been allowed to bloom and the guys at Steamforged have unveiled Godtear to the world in the 2017 keynote speech!!!

The game centres around "Champions", heroes with the power and ability to use Godtears (Relics from the destruction of the Gods in a previous age), and their groups of lesser warriors and minions.

Below is the art for four of the Champions and the forces they will bring to the board:

Rangosh and Cutthroats

Shale (Earth Mage) and Rock Golem

Rhodri and the Household Guard

Raeth-Marid (Dragonkin) and Whirlpools

A regular game is stated to be three Champions with followers, which could be larger units of weaker fighters or maybe one stronger one like the Rock Golem.... Creates a lot of list building combinations which for me is awesome.. and leads nicely on to this:

This... This has to be bought! This early release pack includes six champions and seventeen followers in addition to Raeth's Whirlpools. Straight of the bat this gives you two forces that we will be able to mix up in play testing.

Rock on!

Some info from seminars has appeared online, here is a rough trasnscript:

1. Overall seems a quite simple stripped down version of guild ball mechanics. You roll small pools of custom dice that give you a result in terms of both damage (number if pips on the dice) and hits (number of non-blank dice).

2. The equivalent of momentum is not specific to models, but killing enemies or manipulating the objective mechanic score you battle points. Earning battle points moves a marker on a track between the players so you can only get so far above the opponent and there's no "draw." Winning a turn earns you VP. Turn 1 is worth 1 VP, turn 2=2, turn 3=3, turn 4=2 and turn 5=1. Winner is first to 5vp.

3. Plays on a hex board. 3 small follower models can fit in one hex, but the masters and big monsters seem to all be on bigger bases. Minions can group up in up to 3s bit can spread out of they want. Being grouped means you roll more dice, so you're more likely to deal more damage, but it means a big attack could take out more of your guys in a single attack. Spreading out could help you block hexes.

4. The his tear is a big 3 hex area that grows during the game. Only champions can enter the godtear hexes, and as an action you can plant your flag in a god tear hex to earn a battle point. If your opponent tramples it they gain 2, but if you can hold it to the end of the turn you score 3.

5. Most if the opportunity for hanky effects is going to be in the champions special rules. We same the minotaur whip the dwarf - he didn't manage to do any damage but did push him back to the edge of the board (no pushing off the board).

5. There's two phases, first is a strategy phase where IIRC the first player does all their moves and other strategy actions (like plant a flag in a god tear), the second phase is alternating activations where each model may get to move again and gets to attack. Most of the champions attacks seem to debuff a stat as well as deal damage, and maybe other jank like the minatour's push

Rock on!
